Hello and welcome to the new website! I am really excited to share this with everyone.

To those who have followed me already, thank you for your patience while I worked my way to the Master Patient over the last few months.

I wanted to decide on a title that reflected my roles, both as a researcher/investigator/writer interested in health knowledge and a patient with lived experience.  I was bouncing ideas off of my sister Kayla, when she threw out this creative headline. Perfect!

The Master Patient is also a play on the term master patient index.

“A master patient index (MPI) is an electronic medical database that holds information on every patient registered at a health care organization.  The MPI stores information like patient name, date of birth, gender, race, social security number and place of residence alongside the patient’s medical history. This provides a clear and complete view of an individual patient and also a large-scale view of the demographics that an HCO is working with.” (According to Margaret Rouse)

In this era of increasing eHealth, I think it is important that we do not lose sight of the individual experience in lieu of the big picture.  Technology has transformed health knowledge and made it easier for patients and families to share their stories, connect with one another and with their health care providers. My goals are in line with movements that believe there is great insight to be learned from the patient perspective.

Integrating health knowledge with lived experience

I am excited to contribute my thoughts and apply my lived experience through The Master Patient.

Thank you for reading!
